Kittredge Konnection - December 5, 2023

Two of our inventors (and Kevin!) at the Invention Convention this week.

This Week's News

Habit of Mind: Thinking and Communicating with Clarity and Precision

“The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and lightning bug.”

Mark Twain

This month's Habit of Mind is Thinking with Clarity and Precision. This habit encourages us to wield our words wisely. By saying exactly what you mean, and making a concerted effort to communicate clearly, you sharpen your thinking skills as well.

This month, we encourage you to stop and think about exactly what you want to say before you say it.

Invention Convention

Thank you to the 6th grade parents who attended the 6th grade Invention Convention! These creative ideas help our students explore new possibilities and expand their horizons. From Christmas Tree Needle catchment to the mug that lets you savor the last sip of cocoa, we hope you enjoyed the brilliant designs our inventors came up with - we know we did!

Thank You, Drivers!

Thank you to the parent drivers and chaperones who attended our field trip to the Academy of Sciences. It was a magical day of rainforests, butterflies, and more! This is one of our favorite events of the year, and we couldn't do it without you!

Basketball Season Begins Today!

The first boy's basketball game of the season is today, December 5. The game will be against PHS and held at Burkes at 3:45pm.

Tomorrow, December 6, is the first girls' basketball game of the season. It will be against Live Oak and held at UCSF Mission Bay at 5:00pm.

The boys' team will also play tomorrow against Live Oak at UCSF Mission Bay. Their game will be at 4:00pm.

Go coyotes!

4/5 Goes to the Planetarium

Katie's 4/5 class is taking a trip to the planetarium! Students will be taking the bus together, and will be back from the field trip around 1pm. Parents should make sure students wear comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and bring a hearty lunch.

Science Club Session #3 Starts Tomorrow

Science Club continues with Session #3, beginning this Wednesday, December 6th!

Come join us Wednesdays after school for exciting STEAM projects. “Engineering and Electricity” is our theme for this new 5-week session. Come explore the intersection of energy and engineering.

Please note that this session includes a three-week pause for our Holiday Happening, and winter vacation.

Please see the attached permission slip in your Konnection email.

Conferences this Thursday and Friday

This Thursday and Friday, December 7th and 8th, are parent-teacher conferences. While no lunch is needed if you pick your child up at noon, students will need a snack. All parents should have signed up for a conference with your child's teacher by now. If you are running late or unable to attend, please give our office a call.

Conference days are minimum days, and students are dismissed at 12pm. If you need to sign your child up for Extended Day, please do no later than Wednesday, December 6, using the Google form below:

Drop-in Extendo is $40 per day. Parents may drop their child off with Extended Day during their conference free of charge.

Make-up Photos This Friday

MugsyClicks is coming back! Photographers will be at Kittredge this Friday at 11am to capture any retakes or missed pictures. If your child would like to retake their photo, please request a retake on your MugsyClicks parent portal and pay the $10 retake fee. Students who have not paid the fee online must bring $10 to school in order to have a new picture taken. Students who were absent during picture day do not pay a fee.

Looking Ahead

Eat a Waffle, Save a Dog!

On Thursday, December 21, our student council is hosting a charity waffle breakfast to raise money for Muttville, an organization that saves and finds homes for senior dogs. A small donation is encouraged for this worthy cause.

PJ Day

Thursday, December 21, is also Pajama Day. Students are encouraged to come in their comfiest, fuzziest, and coziest pjs! Slippers are fine when kids are cozy in their classrooms. Sneakers are needed for recess.

Winter Break

Kittredge kicks off winter break this year with a minimum day on Thursday, December 21st. There will be a 12pm dismissal.

There is no school on Friday, December 22nd. School will resume on Monday, January 8th.
