Kittredge Konnection – February 11, 2020

One Hundred Day Edition

THIS WEEK’S NEWS

Tomorrow is the One Hundredth Day of School!

Tomorrow is a holiday of sorts… the completion of one hundred days of school will be celebrated. If your child is in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, I’m sure you know this, but other families might have missed this milestone. Happy one hundred to all!

NatureBridge: In Progress Now

On Sunday our 7th and 8th graders left for Yosemite National Park for a very memorable outdoor education and bonding experience. So far the weather has been great, the food has been plentiful and the rooms come with an amazing view!

We will welcome them back on Friday about 5pm.

Valentines Day – This Friday, February 14

Please remember that if your child is distributing Valentines’ cards in school, he or she should have one for every member of the class. Candy treats will not be allowed to be eaten in classes and should be used minimally, if at all.

Minimum Day Dismissal This Friday, February 14 – No Classes Next Week

Thank you for letting us know where to dismiss your child at Noon.

Visitors are in the School

Applicants for next year in grades 1through 8 are coming in to spend a day in a classroom. Kittredge is designed to have openings for new transfer students in 6th grade and other grades if space is available. Word of mouth has always been our best advertising, so if you know of any families looking for a strong academic yet nurturing environment, please have them call us.

MORE FEBRUARY NEWS

Calling all Talent… Talent Show Auditions Continue After Presidents’ Week

All students who want to audition for a solo or small group performance at our talent show need to know their act and be ready to perform it in class. Audition slips must be completed and returned this week to be put on the schedule. Please help your child prepare and please remember that acts can be no longer than 3 minutes.

Project Cicero – February 28 to March 5

The perfect time to clear out any of your child’s outgrown books

We are pleased that Kittredge will again be partnering with Project Cicero Bay Area, the children’s book drive that brings much needed books to the classrooms and libraries of under-resourced public schools in the Bay Area. These past three years, families from our school, together with those from other participating San Francisco schools, donated nearly 50,000 books. The book drive distributed these books to nearly 400 teachers, reaching over 15,000 students in need.

The book drive is scheduled to run from Friday, February 28 through Thursday, March 5. We ask families to drop off their child(ren)’s outgrown, gently-used pleasure reading books in the designated boxes during these four days. Members of the book drive’s organizing committee will pick up the books on Friday, March 8, and bring them to a distribution site. Invited public school teachers from these under-resourced schools (Title 1 Funded) will come to a book fair on Saturday, March 9 and select books for their classrooms. The entire book drive will be done within one week.

Books in need are: Beginning Readers, Picture Books, Board Books, Early and Middle Grade Chapter Books, Young Adult Fiction, Graphic Novels, Classic Literature, Geography/History, Multicultural Literature, Biographies, Poetry, Plays/Drama, Up-to-date Reference.

Please no Adult Books or textbooks.

For more information please go to the book drive’s website, www.projectcicerobayarea.org.

**Extended Day will close at 5:00**

Please mark your calendars now to make sure you and your child can attend this entertaining evening of talent. Classes are working on their group performances with Karen. The theme this year is “Peace, Love, Hope, Inspiration and Music” and each child’s voice in the class production is important. Please let us know if your child will not be attending the talent show so we can plan accordingly.

Say You’ll Be Wine… Wine Donations still Accepted!

A Public Service Announcement from Jennifer Buzick, Social Chair

Hello Kittredgites! We are a little behind where we would like to be in wine donations and will graciously accept any bottles that you are willing to donate. We’re very excited about many of the wines we have received, and are looking forward to filling a few gaps to create the perfect wine raffle and auction. Please leave any bottles you can spare with Trudy or to arrange a private pick-up, please email jbuzick@gmail.com. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity!

Join us on March 14 at this Year’s Spring Auction

A Note From Leyla Cebeci and Alexandra Feldman Co-Chairs, Spring Auction

The Spring Dinner and Auction planning is in full swing – we are looking forward to a fun-filled evening celebrating our fabulous Kittredge KommUnity at Arguello Restaurant on March 14, 2020!

Sponsorship and Live Auction Donations are crucial ingredients in the event’s success! You can ensure our success by donating a sponsorship — as each level of donation enhances our kids’ learning. We are also seeking items/experiences for our live auction. In the past years, popular auctions items have included: weekend getaways and sports/entertainment/cultural tickets.

Please consider purchasing tickets and donating early, it expedites the organization of the auction!

“Count-Me-Ins” for the Spring Auction

A note from Homa Hanjani, Chair

This is an invitation to ALL Kittredge Teachers, Parents, and Community Members.

In the interest of inclusivity, we want to offer a variety of memorable experiences with varying predictable prices. The ones that were hosted last year were a success… and everyone is encouraged to offer something!

If you are interested in hosting or organizing an event please provide us with the information on this form by February 20th:
