Kittredge Konnection – February 13, 2018

………………………………………………

Valentines Day is Tomorrow!

Please remember that if your child is distributing Valentines’ cards in school, he or she should have one for every member of the class. Candy treats will not be allowed to be eaten in classes and should be used minimally, if at all.

NatureBridge: Now in Progress

Our 7th and 8th graders are at Yosemite National Park for the week. Last night Mr. Young reported wonderful news about the trip. The bus ride was fun and uneventful, the cabins are heated and cozy, the food is plentiful and good, and it all comes with great views.

Another wonderful beginning to an amazing week! We look forward to their cheery, tired faces on Friday evening.

Noon Dismissal This Friday, February 16 – Happy Presidents’ Week!

We have received Friday’s dismissal information and Presidents’ Week Registration Forms via Survey Monkey from just about everyone. Thank you all so much!

Extended Day is open on Friday from noon until 6pm and there will be Extendo next Tuesday to Friday for those who registered.

Visitors are in the School

Applicants for next year in grades 1 through 8 are coming in to spend a day in a classroom. Kittredge is designed to have openings for new transfer students in 6th grade and other grades if space is available. Word of mouth has always been our best advertising, so if you know of any families looking for a strong academic yet nurturing environment, please have them call us.

The Kittredge School Talent Show is Scheduled for March 22 at 6:30

**Extended Day will close at 5:00**

Please mark your calendars now to make sure you and your child can attend this entertaining evening of talent. Classes are working on their group performances with David. Each child’s role in the class production is important so please let us know if your child will not be attending the talent show.

Calling all Talent… Talent Show Auditions Continue After Presidents’ Week

All students who want to audition for a solo or small group performance at our talent show need to know their act and be ready to perform it in class. Please help your child prepare and please remember that acts can be no longer than 3 minutes. Audition slips must be completed and turned before your child can audition. Forms are attached to the newsletter and are available in the office.

Say You’ll Be Wine!

A Public Service Announcement from Jennifer Buzick, Holden’s mom

By now you should have received an invitation to the Spring Social on March 10th, generously hosted by Devon & Nick McConnell. In addition to socializing and enjoying this awesome Kittredge community, we are asking for you to bring your wine, your vino, your grown-up juice, your spare libations to the gathering on March 10th to benefit the auction. If you can’t join us, please email Jennifer Buzick at jbuzick@gmail.com and I will find a way to get your grapes! Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated and will directly benefit your child.

Project Cicero – March 5 to 8

We are pleased to tell you that Kittredge will again be partnering with Project Cicero Bay Area, the children’s book drive that brings much needed books to the classrooms and libraries of under-resourced public schools in the Bay Area. These past two years, families from our school, together with those from other participating San Francisco schools, donated nearly 50,000 books. The book drive distributed these books to nearly 400 teachers, reaching over 15,000 students in need.

The book drive is scheduled to run from Monday, March 5 through Thursday, March 8. We ask families to drop off their child(ren)’s outgrown, gently-used pleasure reading books in the designated boxes during these four days. Members of the book drive’s organizing committee will pick up the books on Friday, March 9, and bring them to a distribution site. Invited public school teachers from these under-resourced schools (Title 1 Funded) will come to a book fair on Saturday, March 10 and select books for their classrooms. The entire book drive will be done within one week.

Books in need are: Beginning Readers, Picture Books, Board Books, Early and Middle Grade Chapter Books, Young Adult Fiction, Graphic Novels, Classic Literature, Geography/History, Multicultural Literature, Biographies, Poetry, Plays/Drama, Up-to-date Reference.

Please no Adult Books or textbooks.

Families are also invited to come help sort and distribute the books to invited teachers during the day of the Book Fair, Saturday, March 10. This is a great, hands-on community service opportunity, and students may receive Community Service recognition for their participation. For more information please go to the book drive’s website, www.projectcicerobayarea.org.
