Kittredge Konnection – February 14, 2023

This Week’s News

The Adventure Begins!

Yesterday morning we said our goodbyes and waved off our 7th and 8th graders as they took off for Yosemite for a week of hiking, snow ball fights, and wonder at the natural world. We can’t wait to hear all about it when they get back!

Re-enrollment Closes TOMORROW, February 15

Tomororw, February 15, the online re-enrollment window will close for our current families. If your child will be returning to Kittredge next year, you will need to complete this form before tomorrow at 10 AM to avoid incurring late fees. There will be a $1,000 deposit needed at that time to hold a space for your child. Please reach out to the office if you have any questions.

Thank You to Jacob and Ari Bushler!

A great big thank you is due to Kittredge alumni Jacob and Ari Bushler for facilitating the Kittredge’s first Green Energy Challenge. Participants learned so much, and we are so proud of the ways they combined their intellectual curiosity and creativity to tackle some of their generation’s most pressing questions!

Reminder: No Science Club this Week!

Kittredge would like to remind you that there is no Science Club this week, as Ms. Rose is off in Yosemite with our 7th and 8th graders! Science Club will resume following President’s Week Break.

Looking Ahead

Friday Chess Club Session 2 Starting Friday, March 3rd — Register Now!

Hello Kittredge community! My name is Jeremy, and I’m a passionate chess player and coach who is excited to share a love of this beautiful game with Kittredge’s students.

Chess Club is open to all Grade 1-8 students, regardless of previous experience with chess. For beginners, please note this in the registration form so we can figure out our staffing and curriculum needs.

We just wrapped our first six-week session which focused on the rules, gameplay, and basic checkmating strategy. Now, we’re opening our second session, which will focus on fundamental tactics, opening principles, and basic strategy.

Starting Friday, March 3rd, the second session of Chess Club will be held each Friday from 3:15 PM to 4:15 PM, except for minimum days or days when school is not in session. This session will run from Friday, March 3rd through Friday, May 5th.

Each lesson will be split between a short 15-30 minutes of interactive instruction and 30-45 minutes of gameplay. While there is plenty to learn, our primary focus will be on creating a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment to enjoy chess and build community.

All materials will be provided. The final week of each session will be a Pizza & Chess Party.

Each six-week session will cost $150 per student. Please fill out this form to register your student.

Please email jeremyalexmann@gmail.com for any clarifying questions.
