HABIT OF MIND FOR JANUARY

Gathering Data Through all Senses

“Tell me, and I’ll forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I’ll understand.” ~Native American Proverb

This month we will be helping students learn and make informed decisions by using the sensory information they gather in their daily lives.

There are many ways that our senses form our thoughts. We know that all information gets into the brain through the sensory pathways and we know that most learning is derived through observing and experiencing. For example: to know a game it must be played; to know a dance it must be moved; to know a goal it must be envisioned.

Students will have our monthly Habit of Mind assembly on Friday at 2:00pm.

JANUARY NEWS

Please Welcome Ms. Amy Forrest to our Faculty

Ms. Forrest will be working to support Ms. Pon-Barry and also Katie Bradley during our return to in-person teaching. Ms Forrest is a credentialed teacher who has taught for years in Marin County. Her experience, positive energy and warm smile will be a wonderful addition to our staff and our community. We hope you will all get to meet her sometime. 🙂

Our K to 2nd Graders are Returning to Kittredge next Tuesday

One week from today, the first group of students will return to Kittredge. Ms Pon-Barry and Ms. Forrest are planning for safe and fun in-person teaching and activities. Ms. Perkins, as well as Maestra Lourdes and Ms. Gules, will zoom in for their classes.

These students, as well as the others once they return, will be taught in a hybrid modality via the Swivl robot (thank you once again Gorin family!). This will allow the teachers and students who are in-person to connect with the students who chose to remain remote. We thank you in advance for patience while we perfect this system.

A few reminders to parents of K to 2nd graders:

  1. All adults in the household of students returning need to send in Covid test results to Trudy.

  2. There will also be a Visitu daily health screening that includes information on travel. San Francisco requires a 10 to 14 day quarantine after travel outside the Bay Area.

  3. We also ask parents to agree to the San Francisco Department of Public Health’s guidelines for Outside of School Time (OST). This says that a child can join one group outside their school cohort if that group abides by the DPH guidelines of Covid Safety for after school groups.

  4. We have changed the morning arrival to reflect entrance through the front classroom door on Lake Street instead of the side door on 25th Avenue.

Thanks for your help with all these details.

Visitu Trial Run, Again

We’ve been working to get everything up and running and we will send another Parent Health Survey out this week. If you receive one, please reply so we can verify all the settings. Thanks very much.
