Kittredge Konnection – May 9, 2023

This Week’s News

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week!

And we sure do appreciate our teachers here at Kittredge! We’ve lucked out with the best of the bunch.

We also owe a BIG thank you to Lisa Wong and the KPA who brought in a breakfast burrito feast for our teachers this morning. It feels wonderful to be appreciated and this was such a nice start to the day. Thank you for all that you do!

Habit of Mind: Staying Open to Continuous Learning

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr. Suess

Last Thursday, at our final assembly of the year (can you believe it?!) students practiced staying open to continuous learning by building upon the activities they learned at a previous assembly: drawing, singing, pitching, and learning Mandarin!

As we prepare for summer break, it is more important than ever to encourage an approach of continuous learning. We should always be looking to sharpen, expand, and deepen our knowledge. There’s so much to learn out there!

Congratulations on Staying Screen-Free!

Turning off screens is a big challenge and we congratulate anyone who modified their screen usage last week. We hope you were able to play a game, read a book, build a fort, create art, play sports or enjoy time with family. Finding new ways to entertain ourselves is a great challenge to take on. Way to take a responsible risk!

Students who successfully completed screen-free week will be rewarded with an ice cream party this Friday, May 12! What a perfect opportunity for kids to share the activities and hobbies they tried out or picked up during screen-free week.

Please take a moment to fill out the following Google form to indicate if your child successfully completed a week free of screens:

Let’s Go Coyotes!

This afternoon at 4pm Kittredge’s Varsity futsal team will compete against SF School at SF School in the quarter-finals! We couldn’t be prouder of our team. Let’s go Coyotes!

Science Club – Final Session

Tomorrow, May 10th is the first of just four meetings for the final session of Science Club this school year. The remaining meeting will be held on May 17th, 24th, and 31st.

This last session will be a mixed theme of requests from Science Club members, including engineering, chemistry, and biology. Come join the fun!

To reserve your space in this fun educational program, please send Ms. Rose a quick email so she can arrange materials. Then, please complete the form in the Konnection email body and return it with payment by check or cash to Ms. Rose.

Thank You for Keeping Our Community Healthy

Winter might be over, but colds and flus are here to stay. If your child is exhibiting symptoms of illness, please reach out to the office before sending them to school. If your child is sick, please have them take a covid test and send a photo of the results to jamieatkittredge@gmail.com. Staying vigilant and protecting our community is how we stay safe, happy, and healthy! Thank you for your continued care.

Next Week’s News

Sports Banquet

If you or your child participated in any Kittredge sports this school year, you are invited to attend this year’s Kittredge Sports Banquet! The event will held Monday, May 15 at Rochambeau Playground, 5pm-6:30. Awards start at 6pm — you won’t want to miss it! Congratulations on a great year and four great seasons, Kittredge!

High School Info Night for 7th Grade Parents

Mr. Young will hold a high school information night for parents of 7th graders only, on Tuesday, May 16, from 6pm-7pm. We will try to answer any questions parents may have about the admissions process, financial aid, and the high schools themselves. Parents who have already gone through this process are invited to share their experiences.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!

7th and 8th graders are heading to Oracle Park on Wednesday, May 17 for a Giant’s game with Mr. Young! Parents, please remember to send your student with a packed lunch or a debit/credit card. Oracle Park does not accept cash payment at this time!! Backpacks are NOT allowed in the ballpark, not even clear ones. Smaller bags are permitted, but must be no more than 16” x 16” x 8”. Kids will return to school by 5pm.

2/3/4 Celebration of Learning

Take a tour of the National Parks without leaving Kittredge School! Wednesday, May 17, parents of the 2/3/4 class are invited to the courtyard to see what their children have been working on! We hope to see you all here at Kittredge at 2:15.

Chess Club Year-End Party & Optional Tournament

To celebrate all the hard work we’ve done in Chess Club, we’ll be holding a year-end party and optional mini-tournament on Friday, May 19th from 3:15 PM to 4:30 PM (Note the later end time to account for tournament logistics.)

We’ll have snacks, games, and an optional tournament for those who choose to partake in it. We’ll be running the tournament Swiss style, so each participant should get about three matches against evenly matched players. Again, please note the tournament is optional. For those who want to attend the year-end party and not participate in the tournament, we will still facilitate casual games, so please don’t let the tournament be a deterrent to attendance.

The cost of the year-end party/optional tournament is $20, payable by cash, check, or Venmo (@jeremy-mann-1).

Please email jeremyalexmann@gmail.com for any clarifying questions.

Looking Ahead

Beach Clean-up May 25th

This year, Kittredge is partnering with the organization Surfrider for our annual beach clean-up.

Surfrider is a nonprofit organization that is “dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the word’s ocean, waves, and beaches, for all people.” They organize beach clean-ups and are committed to clearing plastics from our oceans.

One of the ways they encourage this is with the Ocean Friendly Restaurants program. These restaurants are committed to saying good-bye to single-use plastics and reusable dining wear, sustainable menu items, and more. Check out their list of San Francisco restaurants and make your next dinner out an ocean-friendly one!

Teacher Development Day

There will be no classes on Friday, May 26th. If your child would like to attend extended day, please sign up using the following Google form:
