Habit of Mind: Questioning and Problem-Posing
“Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers.”
- Voltaire
November's Habit of Mind is Questioning and Problem-Posing. Asking questions and posing problems is a key component of genuine interest, curiosity, and deep thinking. The more you wish to know about the world around you, the more you will learn!
Last week, Kittredge's student council members demonstrated Questioning and Problem-Posing at our assembly by dividing students into groups and having them ask a series of questions to guess their hidden identity (a paintbrush, for example). Students worked together to identify the clearest questions they could ask in order to learn more. You may find that you are able to help guide your child toward discovery simply by providing them with a question.
Diwali
We owe a great big thank you to Kittredge parents Riva Gokhale, Anna Malyala, and Jessica May-Shah for the wonderful Diwali celebration they organized yesterday! Students and teachers alike showed off their dance moves, drew beautiful rangolis, and enjoyed yummy mango lassi and samosas!
We're so proud of our Kittredge Coyotes!
We couldn't be prouder of our volleyball team, who made it all the way to the SFAL finals last Friday! The teamwork, dedication, and camaraderie this team has shown one another has been incredible, and we can't wait to celebrate them at the Sports Banquet at the end of this year!
APEC San Francisco
You may need to allow extra time to travel safely as you make your way to school this week.
Street closures and detours around the Legion of Honor will begin at noon on Nov. 16. Clement Street will be closed between 34th and 38th avenues, except for people who live or work between these streets. The 18th-to-46th Avenue Muni bus line will be rerouted during this time. This perimeter will end late on Nov. 16.

Gearing Up for Yosemite
Seventh and 8th Grade Parents are invited to join us at Kittredge tomorrow evening at 6:30pm to learn about their upcoming trip to Yosemite. Use our 25th Avenue entrance to join us in the K/1 room where we will talk about what you can expect out of this trip that is sure to be a highlight of the Kittredge experience.
Picture Day - Make-up Reminder
Picture Day last Friday couldn't have been smoother, and we can't wait to see the finished product! Parents can expect an email from MugsyClicks when their photos are ready, with a link for viewing and ordering.
Did your child miss picture day? Don't worry! Our makeup Picture Day will be Friday, December 8.
Basketball Sign-ups
It's that time of year already! Interested 6th, 7th, and 8th graders were given permission slips today for Kittredge's basketball team. These forms are due this Friday, November 17.
Conference Sign-ups
Can you believe that it's already time for conferences? The first trimester of the school year ends this Friday, and conferences will take place when we return from Thanksgiving break, December 7th and 8th. Parents should be on the lookout for sign-ups for conference slots from teachers later this week.
Sibling App Deadline
Tomorrow, November 15 is the deadline for sibling applications. If you have questions about the admissions process, please reach out to us in the office to chat about how we can help.
Culture Day
This Friday, November 17, Kittredge will celebrate Culture Day with a school-wide potluck.
Culture Day is an opportunity to explore a new culture or their own through dress, food, celebration, and more. Students are encouraged to wear traditional dress or the colors of a country's flag. Each student will be given an index card to write the name of the country they are representing, illustrate it with the country's flag, list the name of the dish and include any allergen information .
Potluck dishes are intended to be appetizer-sized, serve as many as 5, and students should be sure to bring home dishes/serving trays with them at the dismissal on the 17th. You can help us through this process by labeling your dish and serving utensil. If you have questions, please reach out to us in the office. It should be a fun event!
Mini day-Friday November 17
Friday, November 17 will be a minimum day with noon dismissal, and the entire following week, November 18-26, we will be on break. Classes resume on Monday, November 27.
Thanksgiving
As we prepare for Thanksgiving Break, we have been reflecting on all that we have to be grateful for. Our friends, our family, our community. Every day we feel lucky to come to a place like Kittredge, a safe place that feels like home. Thank you, each and every member of our community, for making Kittredge what it is. You are the magic that makes Kittredge so special.
