Habits of Mind in Real Life, Way to go Luke!

This week, second grader Luke Vilhauer, shared the results of two different letters that he wrote at home. His letter writing was a wonderful example of several Habits of Mind and how these habits become part of successful people.

Using Past Knowledge:

Luke used past knowledge (the information he learned in class from Ms. Baker’s “Friendly Letter Writing” unit) to write a letter to the LEGO Company.

Creating, Imagining, and Innovating:

In his letter he used creativity, imagination and innovation as he explained to the company his new ideas for a line of toys. He received a response back that they will consider his ideas.

Taking Responsible Risks:

In Luke’s second letter, he used a Habit from last year and took a responsible risk. In this letter, he asked Willie Mays, who lives on the same block as his grandparents, to sign a Willie Mays book that he had read. He received a response and hopes to get the autograph soon

Way to go, Luke!

Important Head Lice Information

Please note that we have had a couple of head lice cases reported among our students. In our effort to be a “nit-free” school the Hair Fairies www.hairfairies.com came in today and conducted a head lice check of all our students.

If you haven’t been contacted, your child was found nit-free however we are still asking for your help throughout the week.

– Please make a careful inspection of your child’s head and hair each night.

– Please keep long hair pulled back in a braid or a bun. Loose hair can make contact easier.

– If you see any evidence of head lice please begin treatment. Products are available at a drug store.

– For professional help to check or for treatment, contact Hair Fairies; 2238 Fillmore Street; 415-292-5900.

Volleyball Team Update

Kittredge has an amazing volleyball team this year. The students are playing hard, playing fair and having a good time. The results so far have been great… 3 wins and 0 losses. We’re always proud of our students who join teams and work to improve their skill. We look forward to seeing the team in the playoff games!

There are 2 more games this week – tomorrow and Friday. All students and parents are welcome to come to a game and cheer for the team. Support is always appreciated. Go Kittredge!

Community Wide/Community Service

From Sarah Goss, Daisy Merritt’s mom

Many of you know Daisy’s “Gommy,” the grandmother who is often at school events and at pickups and drop offs.  I wanted to share that on October 11th the apartment she shares with my dad in Santa Rosa was destroyed in an electrical fire.  She and my father (and their cat) are fine, which is the most important thing. I have been putting together a collection of household items to replace what they lost. So far, they have not been able to salvage anything from their apartment, so anything you have to give away will probably be most appreciated! But I can also send you a list my mom made if you email me at goss@usfca.edu. I also have a GoFundMe page for them and have been building a fund for them to help them rebuild their lives:

I completely understand if you don’t have hand-me-downs, and please know that Gommy also appreciates the love and support so many are giving her, which is hugely helpful in itself.

Thank you for reading,

Sarah.
