Habit of Mind for September: Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations
Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations is an important habit and skill to acquire. Simply put, this habit reminds us to use what we already know to do something new. It is a common skill found in all successful people.
Philosopher John Dewey once said, “We do not learn from our experiences; we learn by reflecting on our experiences.”
During September our teachers are including specific activities and assignments designed to help our students cultivate the good habit of thinking back and recalling lessons learned and how these lessons can be applicable to their future learning!
Student Council Elections This Thursday
We have many fine candidates running for spots on our student council. Though only a few of these fine candidates will receive enough votes to serve, we are proud of them all, and think that they are all winners!

The candidates are:
4/5th grades class rep: Marcella, Nathaniel, Haile and Daisy

Back to School Night, This Thursday September 17
All parents are invited into their child’s classroom to learn about the curriculum and goals for the upcoming year. The doors will open at 6:10 so that teachers can start their presentations promptly at 6:30. A general overview of the year as well as classroom policies and expectations will be discussed. There will be no individual conferences at this time.
This evening is for adults only and we will not be able to provide childcare. Please remember that parking can be difficult, so plan appropriately. Walking, biking and carpooling are recommended. See you there!

A message from Debbie Veatch, KPA President
Thanks to all who attended the first KPA meeting. Throughout the year, you will have many opportunities to participate in whatever fashion suits your situation. At present, we could use a volunteer from each of the 7th and 8th grades to serve as class parents. This is not a big time commitment and would give you the opportunity to communicate with parents in your child’s class. Please contact Debbie Veatch at veatchdl@gmail.com or 415-752-1676 if you are interested or have questions. Please mark your calendar for the next KPA meeting on Tuesday, October 13, from 6-7 p.m.
Some Words from Kristen Kadner… (our apologies)
An All Hands, Mandatory Adult-Only Party Evite is coming soon from Kristen Kadner, Your semi-Social Chair. Please Save the Date, Saturday night, October 17th. I can only write in caps and I have to hurry because Trudy has walked away from her desk so please mark your calendar and dig up the Spandex.
