Habit of Mind for September
Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations
“The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future.” ~ Theodore Roosevelt
Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations is an important habit and skill to acquire. Simply put, this habit reminds us to use what we already know to do something new. It is a common skill found in successful people.
Philosopher John Dewey once said, “We do not learn from our experiences; we learn by reflecting on our experiences.”

Back to School Night for Parents, This Thursday September 19
All parents are invited into their child’s classroom to learn about the curriculum and goals for the upcoming year. The doors will open at 6:15 so that teachers can start their presentations promptly at 6:30. A general overview of the year as well as classroom policies and expectations will be discussed. There will be no individual conferences at this time.
Please note that teacher presentations will be over about 7:15 and the doors close at 7:30 so that everyone can still spend the evening with their families.
This evening is for adults only and we will not be able to provide childcare. Please remember that parking can be difficult, so plan appropriately. Walking, biking and carpooling are recommended.

Student Council Elections This Friday
We have many fine candidates running for a few spots on the Kittredge Student Council. We congratulate all the students who are running for an office. Since there is only one representative per office, the candidate who gets the most votes will be the representative. However, it must be said that anyone who is running now to represent the school is already a winner!
The candidates are:
4/5th grades class rep: Lachlan, Allie, George and Flynn
6th grade class rep: Luke, Saphina, Abby, Cerys, Golda and Pilar
7th grade class rep: Charlotte
Secretary: Tara
President: Amanda and Sasha
Student council elections will be held this Friday, September 20. Candidates for class representatives will be making their speeches in their classrooms at a time designated by the teacher. The candidates for president and secretary will address the whole school this Thursday, September 19. Good luck to all the candidates!
