Habit of Mind: Listening with Understanding and Empathy
In the words of a Kittredge kindergartener, listening with understanding and empathy is, "listening with your eyes, and ears, but also with your head and your heart. Detect what the speaker is feeling."
Whether it's a hurt feeling that needs processing, a well-intended question, or a story across the dinner table, this month we encourage our Kittredge community to take the time to really hear one another - with your eyes and ears, but also with your head and your heart.
Student Council
Congratulations to everyone who ran for student council last week. We couldn't be more proud of the students who put themselves out there, tried something new, and volunteered to be a part of what makes Kittredge great!

One Small Way to Respect Our Planet
In the spirit of this trimester's Character Counts pillar, Respect, we would like to take a moment to remind all Kittredge students the important of respecting our planet.
At Kittredge, we have three bins in every classroom (landfill, compost, and recycling) and encourage students to self-sort when they dispose of materials. Many classroom teachers will also make sorting into a classroom job, so that each class is as environmentally friendly as it can be!
Please take a moment to look over these charts with your family if you would like a refresher on how to be a champion for our planet!
Sports
The first Cross Country meet of the season is this Friday, September 20th, at 4:30pm. The race will be at Hellman Hollow in Golden Gate Park.
The first Volleyball game of the season will be next Monday, September 23rd, at 5:00pm. The game will be at KIPP Bayview, against KIPP Bayview.

Fall Camping Trip Thank You!
A special shout out to Leyla Alieva and Shane Hill for planning last weekend's camping trip to the Russian River. Some time in nature with good company can be just the thing to unwind and reset. We hope you enjoyed this Kittredge community event. We hear a fun time was had by all!
KPA Meeting Round-Up

This year's fundraising goal is $15K, and you can help! Donate an item for the fall raffle or sign up to host a Count-Me-In by Sept. 30. Raffle ticket sales and CMI sign-ups go live in early October.
Save the date for the Fall Social at the Stephens' house on October 19, 7:30-9:30. Be on the lookout for an invitation and book your sitter now!
We're looking for volunteers to plan this year's Holiday Happening! Reach out to Holiday Happening Chair Riva Gokhale at rivar924@gmail.com if you're interested and plan to attend the next KPA meeting on Nov. 12. This is a favorite of the kids - let's make it a memorable one!
