Habit of the Mind: Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations
“I’ve never made a mistake. I’ve only learned from experience.” - Thomas Edison
As we begin this school year, students will spend the first two weeks surrounded by newness: new teachers, new classmates, and new information. This month’s Habit of the Mind encourages students to reflect on previous knowledge and experiences when engaging with something new.
Your child may not have met these new classmates before, but they have made new friends in the past by asking questions, starting conversations, and including others. Your child may not have learned this particular math lesson before, but they have learned the building blocks of the subject last year, and can recall and rely on those skills to solve more advanced problems.
This month, encourage your child to as themself: What do I already know?
Kittredge Has a New Website!
If you’ve been to kittredge.org lately, you may notice that things are looking a little different…
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the Kittredge parents who made our new website possible: Lisa Wong, Jeff Wang, Derek Anuen, and Mindee Kashiwagi. Your design ability, technical know-how, graphical expertise and continued inspiration are gifts to the community. We are so grateful for your time and effort. We hope that our parents will enjoy the parents tab, where you can find out all the info a Kittredge family could need! Schedules are at your fingertips and photos a plenty! Thank you, Lisa, Jeff, Derek and Mindee for enhancing our family experience.
What a wonderful Kittredge community we have!

Student Council Elections
The student council is an opportunity to make a difference in our community! If your child is interested in joining student council, please have them complete a permission slip, available in the office. Permission slips for students interested in running for Student Council are due this Friday, September 8. Students should return forms to the office with parent and teacher signatures.
Student Council elections will be held next Wednesday, September 13. Candidates will give speeches to the entire school at our first school Assembly. Afterwards, students will cast their votes!
Back to School Night - September 13
Back to School Night is back in person! After a few years of back to school night presentations over zoom, we are pleased to welcome you into the school for this special evening, next Wednesday, September 13 from 6:30-7:30pm. If your child is in Extended Day, please make sure they are picked up by 6pm.
We recognize this can be a challenge for parents of multiple students. You may opt to visit both of your children’s classrooms and teachers know that you may need to leave early or come in late.
If you are unable to attend your child’s classroom presentation, we recommend contacting the teacher or stopping by the teacher’s classroom for informational materials.
